“A Muslim & A Jew Go There” is a brand new podcast produced by Instinct Productions, hosted by comedian David Baddiel (author of “Jews Don’t Count”) and politician Sayeeda Warsi (“Muslims Don’t Matter”) who will take on whatever controversy hits the headlines each week, providing context and discussion around current political and cultural events involving and affecting British Muslims and Jews.

Covering topics from antisemitism in the Labour party and Islamophobia in the Conservative Party to debating concepts like “racism hierarchies”, “non-visible minorities” and “victim olympics”, as well as tropes and stereotypes, and the Middle East and its impact on Jewish and Muslim communities in Britain, this topical, often funny podcast will go there in a way others might not dare.

Israel & Pakistan, Netanyahu & Modi and the not so divine madness of Christian Zionism (media.mp3)

With David in India and Sayeeda heading to Pakistan, they discuss India’s ongoing elections and what they mean for the country's 200 million Muslims. They ask whether Modi and Netanyahu are kindred spirits, and look at Pakistan and Israel’s surprisingly similar history.

After that, they tackle Christian Zionism in the US and how it influences Trump and politics worldwide.

Why did the Jew Cross the Road…at Saturday’s Palestine Protest? Columbia Campus Wars and Defining Islamophobia (media.mp3)

David and Sayeeda discuss the pro-Palestinian protests in London where the head of the Campaign Against Antisemitism clashed with police, as well as chaos on campus at Columbia University across the pond.

Are antisemitism and Islamophobia being ‘weaponised’ to shut down debate about Israel and Islam? And is having an ‘Islamophobia’ definition doing more harm than good, asks a top think tank?

The Michaela Muslim Prayer Ban, Iran Attacks / Responds and the Sydney Stabbings (media.mp3)

This week David and Sayeeda tackle Tuesday's High Court judgment on the prayer ban enforced by Britain’s strictest headteacher. Then they go there again on the Middle East and this time on Iran’s retaliatory attack on Israel, the two stabbings in Sydney and the rush to identify a culprit on social media.

Listener Q&A: Why do Muslims only care about Palestinian deaths? Is criticising Israel antisemitic? How can Israel protect itself from Hamas? (media.mp3)

This week David and Sayeeda take on your questions for the first time. Join them as they really go there!

Q&A with timecodes

  1. Are Muslims exposed to more racism in the UK today versus Jews? (0:54)
  2. How can Israel protect itself from Hamas without causing a catastrophe in Gaza? (10:55)
  3. Could every Jew or Muslim who has the potential for dual citizenship potentially be deprived of their citizenship if the government of the day decides they have committed a crime incompatible with British citizenship? (23:22)
  4. Why don't British Muslims and Muslims worldwide collectively mourn for the 377, 000 Muslims recently killed in the current war in Yemen or China, or Pakistan or Myanmar in the same way that they mourn the deaths in Palestine? (33:30)
  5. If I condemn Israeli policy regarding settlements, does that make me an anti Semite? (45:28)
  6. If David believes in the continued right of Israel to exist, does that not make him a Zionist? (55:20)

Eurovision & Queers for Palestine, Israeli “Pink-Washing”, Battles Over BDS & Tackling the Taliban (media.mp3)

This week our hosts tackle the Queers for Palestine led boycott of Eurovision, gay rights in the Middle East and accusations of Israeli “pink-washing”, as well as the government's anti-BDS bill. And then they go there on an even thornier topic - the Taliban's announcement it will reintroduce public stoning for adultery and women's rights in Islam.

BBC Bias, Blasphemy and the Right to Offend (media.mp3)

David and Sayeeda tussle with accusations thrown at the beleaguered broadcaster from all sides and then tackle the thorny subjects of freedom of speech and blasphemy. Should anything be off-limits in comedy and culture?

Controversy at the Oscars, ‘Jewface’ and why Ramadan Feels Different This Year (media.mp3)

The Academy Awards were mired in controversy last weekend as the conflict in Gaza took centre stage. David and Sayeeda discuss director Jonathan Glazer’s speech and why there’s still a way to go when it comes to Jewish and Muslim representation on screen, from Oppenheimer to Borat. And, as Ramadan begins, Sayeeda explains why it’s taken on a new poignancy this year due to the conflict and starvation of civilians in Gaza. David explains why Jews in Britain must not be held accountable for Israel’s actions. Things got so heated, Sayeeda had to cool down...

Gaza, Galloway and Rishi Sunak Striking a Dramatic Pose Outside No 10 (media.mp3)

A week on from George Galloway’s victory in Rochdale, Sayeeda Warsi and David Baddiel discuss why Gaza seems to be THE issue for so many British Muslims. And in a week when the Prime Minister made his state of the nation speech about extremism, is the government ready to act on threats against Jews? Or is this just a way to muzzle Muslims?

Rochdale, “From the River to the Sea” and Race Rows in British Politics (media.mp3)

From the use of the phrase “From the River to the Sea”, the Rochdale by-election and antisemitic comments made by Labour's candidate, to the Tory party’s failure to condemn Islamophobic comments and its reluctance to use that term, David Baddiel and Sayeeda Warsi discuss some of the most radioactive issues in last week’s news, through a Muslim and Jewish lens.
